Toothpaste
May. 22nd, 2021 09:12 pmToday's fun, I think we found out something I'm allergic to. I was using toothpaste last night when the tip of my tongue and gums felt tingly. Toothpaste is not supposed to do that. We found two main difference between the two brands, sodium fluoride vs, sodium monoflorophosphate, and sorbitol vs. no sorbitol. Looking up the difference between the sodium, the first is an ionic compound, meaning one element gives it's electrons to the other element, while the other is a covalent compound where electrons are shared. The only reason one or the other is used is based on what they mix with, so it's probably not that. The sorbitol on the other hand gives me an idea. It's an artificial sweetener that doesn't dissolve in our mouth acid. The acid attempting to dissolve something that can't be dissolved might cause a tingly reaction. Of course this isn't in depth or anything, but it's interesting to think about.
